Back to Phoenix Police Department
Officer Review
Officer's Comment
"The department is an excellent place to begin your career as a police officer. Few departments offer the extensive repetitions and experience you’ll gain working the streets of Phoenix. However, the call volume is high, and staffing is a significant issue. This leads to low morale and officers cutting corners on calls as they lose the “why” of their job. Despite these challenges, my six plus years there were the most enjoyable of my career. I had the privilege of working with some of the best command staff I could have ever had. However, not everyone can say the same. The department has many specialty units, but they’re difficult to get into. If you can’t make it into a specialty, you’re likely to burn out on patrol. While it’s a great department to start with, it may not be the best place to stay for 25+ years. Having worked for other departments, I can honestly say no other departments come close to the skill and competency of Phoenix’s specialty units."
